Maria Milagrosa Averhoff

Maria Milagrosa Averhoff, a resident of Stony Point, NY for 32 years, passed away on August 8, 2024. Maria was also a resident of North Tarrytown, Haverstraw, and Garnerville. Maria was born in Matanzas, Cuba and came to the United States in the 1960's. She earned her Master's Degree in early childhood education from Montclair State College. She starting teaching in the North Rockland School District in 1971, which at that time was the Haverstraw Elementary School and was later renamed the Gerald Neary Elementary School. She dedicated 33 years to her Kindergarten and first grade students. Maria was an avid gardener, and loved cooking and also enjoyed Ball Room Dancing, she was a very social, loving person. Maria is survived by her brother, Arturo Ramirez and wife Nilsa, cousins: Maria Averhoff-San Miguel, and husband Jaime San Miguel, Luis Averhoff, Lourdes Averhoff, Frank Averhoff, and Miguel Angel Fernandez, and her neice, Nilsa Averhoff and nephew Carlos Ramirez. Also, special close friends; John W. and Sue Esposito, Jamie Zupa, Gloria and Vasco Delgado. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the George M. Holt Funeral Home, 50 New Main Street, Haverstraw, New York 10927. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at St. Peter's & St. Mary's Catholic Church,115 Broadway, Haverstraw, New York 10927. Burial will follow at Mount Repose Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers Memorial Donations in loving Memory of Maria Milagrosa Averhoff be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
