Maria Eugenia Bedoya

María Eugenia Bedoya, affectionately known as Genita to those who loved her, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, at her home in Bentonville, Arkansas, at the age of 65. Born in Medellín, Colombia, Genita was a living testament to the fact that a person with a mental illness can lead a full and meaningful life.
Since 2003, María Eugenia made Arkansas her home, but she always carried the roots of her beloved Colombia in her heart. She grew up in a large family, with three brothers and four sisters. She was the mother of four children: Carlos Mario, Tatiana, Roger Alejandro, and Daniela, whom she raised with unwavering love and determination.
María Eugenia was an entrepreneur woman and was fortunate to thrive in her native country as the owner of toy stores, often traveling between Panama and the United States to supply her businesses.
Despite the challenges she faced throughout her life, one of the most difficult moments was the loss of her first husband, Roger Giraldo, leaving her widowed with her first three children. After many difficult years, María Eugenia found love again and later married Omar Martinez, who became her last husband and life partner. She had her last daughter, Daniela Martinez, a great reason that propelled her to continue her life, as she never stopped fighting for a better future for her children, achieving her dream of seeing them grow up in a safer environment in the United States.
Faith in God was a pillar in María Eugenia's life, and through her example, she taught her loved ones the importance of love and resilience. Passionate about nature and especially dedicated to her animals, who were always by her side, María Eugenia shared this passion, teaching others to respect all forms of life. Additionally, she had a deep interest in art and history, and surprisingly, she possessed an exceptional memory that allowed her to recall data and dates with astounding accuracy.
María Eugenia was a very social person and cultivated love in her family and friends. This process of sowing love was not easy to understand as there were times when we could not understand her love. The most beautiful thing about her was that she never stopped loving.
María Eugenia was always a woman full of compassion for others, generous and bountiful. She tried to teach us that a gift is a thought, a prayer, an "I love you," and magically managed to capture these feelings by painting or sculpting and creating incredibly intentional gifts for those she loved.
Throughout her life, she faced and overcame obstacles that would have discouraged many, but she showed us that true strength resides in an unbreakable spirit.
Today, we celebrate María Eugenia for her legacy of love, strength, and perseverance that will always endure in all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was an inspiration and her memory a comfort to all of us who continue forward inspired by her tireless spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that loved ones plant a tree in her memory.

María Eugenia Bedoya, conocida cariñosamente como Genita por aquellos que la amaron, falleció en paz el 10 de mayo de 2024 en su hogar en Bentonville, Arkansas, a la edad de 65 años. Nacida en Medellín, Colombia, Genita fue un testimonio viviente de que una persona con una condición mental puede llevar una vida plena y significativa.
Desde el 2003, Maria Eugenia hizo de Arkansas su hogar, pero siempre llevó en su corazón las raíces de su amada Colombia. Se crió en una familia grande, siendo hermana de tres hermanos y cuatro hermanas. Fue madre de cuatro hijos: Carlos Mario, Tatiana, Roger Alejandro y Daniela, a quienes crió con un amor y una determinación inquebrantable.
A pesar de los desafíos que afronto durante su vida, uno de los momentos más difícil fue haber perdido a su primer esposo, Roger Giraldo. Quedando viuda con su tres primeros hijos. Después de muchos años difíciles, Maria Eugenia encontró nuevamente el amor y años más tarde se casó con Omar Martinez, quien se convirtió en su último esposo y compañero de vida. Tuvo a su última hija, Daniela Martinez, un gran motivo que la impulso para continuar su vida, ya que ella nunca dejó de luchar por un futuro mejor para sus hijos, logrando su sueño de verlos crecer en un ambiente más seguro en los Estados Unidos.
Maria Eugenia fue una mujer emprendedora y tuvo la fortuna de realizarse en su país natal como propietaria de tiendas de juguetes, viajando a menudo entre Panamá y Estados Unidos para abastecer sus negocios.
La fe en Dios fue un pilar en la vida de Maria Eugenia y a través de su ejemplo, enseñó a sus seres queridos la importancia del amor y la resiliencia. Apasionada por la naturaleza y especialmente dedicada a sus animales, que siempre estaban a su lado, María Eugenia compartió esta pasión, enseñando a los demás a respetar toda forma de vida. Además, tenía un interés profundo por el arte y la historia, y sorprendentemente, poseía una memoria excepcional que le permitía recordar datos y fechas con precisión asombrosa.
Maria Eugenia fue una persona muy social y cultivo amor en su familia y amigos. Este proceso de sembrar amor no fue tan fácil entenderlo ya que hubo momentos en los cuales no podíamos entender su amor. Lo más lindo de ella, fue que nunca dejo de amar.
Maria Eugenia siempre fue una mujer llena de compasión por otros, generosa y abundante. Intento enseñarnos que un regalo es un pensamiento, una oración, un te quiero, y mágicamente lograba plasmar estos sentimientos pintando o esculpiendo y creando regalos increíblemente intencionales para quienes amaba.
A lo largo de su vida, ella enfrentó y superó obstáculos que habrían desalentado a muchos, pero nos demostró que la verdadera fortaleza reside en el espíritu inquebrantable.
Hoy celebramos a Maria Eugenia, por su legado de amor, fortaleza y perseverancia que siempre perdurará en todos aquellos que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla. Su vida fue una inspiración y su memoria un consuelo para todos nosotros que seguimos adelante inspirados por su incansable espíritu.
