Laura Mae Collins

Laura Mae Collins, 99, of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025. She was born August 6, 1926, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Roy and Laura Geist Thurman.
Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the family later moved to Wichita, Kansas. Laura met her "man," Dwight Collins, while working the front desk at the Beech Aircraft employees' club. They built a marriage filled with love and respect that lasted 49 years-a lasting example of devotion. They worked and laughed together and enjoyed traveling, especially with friends on golf trips.
In the early years of their marriage, Laura supported Dwight during his baseball career, traveling with him across Texas, Oklahoma, and Canada. In 1960, they established Dwight's Clothiers in Springdale, known for personal and friendly service. Husbands especially sought her guidance and special touches for beautiful gifts for their wives.
A faithful Christian, Laura served actively in First United Methodist Church and was a proud member of PEO Chapter G, where she served as Chaplain.
Laura was a devoted mother to Cyndy Spencer Hatfield, who is married to Ken, and Rick Collins, who is married to Brenda. She was a cherished grandmother to Kim Browning (married to Chris), Jim Bob Spencer (married to Amber), and John Stephen Spencer (married to Amber). Laura found great joy in her role as a great-grandmother to Will, Ellie, Sam, Caroline, Cy, and Winnie. She never missed a birthday.
Laura will be remembered for her faith, kindness, grace, and deep love of family. She had the ability to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dwight, her parents, and her brother, Russ Thurman.
