Maria del Pilar Covian was born in Chile and grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey. She had a magnetic personality, funny, witty, sassy, and full of life. A true go-getter, Maria was hardworking and dedicated, facing every challenge with determination and heart.
She loved spending time with her mom exploring and shopping in New York City, trying out new restaurants, or simply enjoying life’s little moments that made her smile. She carried a light spirit and was always filled with laughter, warmth, and love, even through the most difficult times.
When her two energetic little brothers came into the world, Maria naturally became more than just a sister, she was their protector, their guide, and in many ways, their second mom. She looked after them, took them on adventures, and was always someone they could depend on.
Later in life, Maria became the proud mom of two beautiful daughters who brought endless love and happiness into her life. She passed on her strength and loving spirit to them, and they became the center of her world, the true loves of her life. Being their mom was, without a doubt, her greatest joy.
Maria found her calling in the medical field. She began her career as a first-assist surgical tech at Jersey City Medical Center and later advanced to become an OR Nurse. A nurturer at heart, she loved her work and always gave it her all. Caring for others came naturally to her. Helping and healing were essential parts of who Maria was.
In 2008, Maria faced one of the greatest challenges of her life when she suffered a massive stroke that could have taken her from us — but God had other plans. Through faith and determination, she set a goal for herself: to walk again. She fought for that goal every single day with incredible strength, a heart full of love, and an unbreakable spirit.
Along with her mother and daughters, Maria later moved to Florida, where she continued her recovery. In 2022, she took a beautiful step forward in her journey when she was baptized, fully embracing her Christian faith. Her relationship with God became her source of peace, courage, and hope. Even when the path was difficult, Maria never lost her spirit. She pushed forward with her greatest sources of strength- her unwavering faith and the love of her family.
This September, after a long and courageous journey, God called His daughter home. Even though her passing brings deep sorrow, Maria wouldn’t want sadness to define her story. She would want to leave us with memories of uplifting and joyful times, the laughter she brought, the music she loved, the good food she enjoyed, and the great stories she shared- all the beautiful moments that make us smile.
Today, we celebrate Maria, the beautiful woman, mother, daughter, sister, and friend that she was. She taught us to love deeply, to face life with courage, and to find joy even in the hardest moments. Her song may have come to an end, but her melody will stay in our hearts forever. Her light will never fade, and her strength, courage, and humor will always live on in each of us.
