Maria O. DeCarvalho, 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 in the St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. She was the beloved wife of Alvaro DeCarvalho. They have been married for the past 54 years.
Born in Gouveia, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio S. and Isabel M. (da Cruz) Almeida. Maria came to the United States in 1963, settling in New York City and eventually Bristol and Pawtucket.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.
Maria enjoyed going for rides with her husband especially trips to the seashores, throughout Rhode Island.
Besides her husband she is survived by her daughter: Suzie Pestana and her husband Mark of Franklin. Her four siblings: Jorge Almeida, Maria do Ceu Antonio, Alberto Almeida all of Cumberland, and Maria Jose Duarte of Gouveia, Portugal. Two grandchildren: Sarah Isabel Pestana, and Matthew Joseph Pestana. She was the sister of the late Maria Armanda Craveiro.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Maria's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 9 AM to 10:30 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. Antoine Residence, 10 Rhodes Avenue North Smithfield, RI 02896.
