Maria Evans Obituary
Maria Mercedes Evans, of Camden, passed away at the age of 86 on January 10, 2025, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was born in Gurabo, Puerto Rico to the late, Consuelo Maria Perez y Corujo and Agustin Garcia y Marquez.
Maria worked at Playtex Family Products, starting in 1973. After 27 years of service, she retired in 2001. During her time at Playtex, she worked in many different departments ultimately ending her career as a Quality Control Inspector. She met her husband, Larry Evans, at work and after dating for a short time they married in 1984. In 2024, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
After retiring, Maria worked at Client Logic for a short time and volunteered at one of the local nursing homes. She enjoyed spending time with the residents by playing games and talking with them.
Maria was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, going to church, and shopping at Boscov's, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls. She always enjoyed finding a bargain and going out to dinner. Maria was loved more than words can express and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and loved ones.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Angel Garcia, Ricardo Vincent Garcia, Arturo Garcia, and Nereida Bernuth.
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry G. Evans; children: Nancy (Michael) McRobie, John A. (Karen) Diaz, Stephen Diaz, Juan Diaz, Pastor John L. (Connie) Diaz, J. Brian (Cindy) Diaz; stepchildren: Kenny L. (Denise) Evans, Lorri E. (Joe) Hardeman, Christine (Ronnie) Oglesby; former daughter in laws: Lori Maloof and Holly Diaz; grandchildren: Gina (Anthony), Daniel, Joshua (Kate), Jessica (Paul), Amanda (Daniel), Christopher (Kelsey), Kayla (Kevin), Ryan (Jane), Trisha, Rebecca (Zachary), Emmit, Justin (Jennifer), Juliana (Trent), Kurt, Elisha, Kimberly, Ronnie, Leslie, Joey, Jeremy, Jordan, Brenden; and she was blessed with 32 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11 AM with a visitation starting at 10 AM. There will also be a visitation Friday evening, January 17, 2025 from 5 PM to 7 PM. Interment will follow the funeral service at Camden Odd Fellows Cemetery.
