Maria Evans Obituary

McKinney - On July 28th, 2025, at 10:40 am, Maria Ramirez Evans went to meet the Lord after a valiant battle against cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

Maria was born in Encino, TX, and had a passion for helping others, which led to a 40-year career in nursing as an RN, BSN. She moved to McAllen, TX, to pursue her career and met the love of her life, Sheridan Evans. She shared her passion for helping others with many nursing students at the University of Texas-Pan American and the surrounding community of the Rio Grande Valley. In 2005, she and her husband moved to McKinney, TX, to be closer to family.

A devout Catholic, Maria lived her life with love and devotion to Jesus and the Blessed Mother Mary. Her family will forever miss her fun-loving and spunky demeanor, as well as her wild stories. She was quirky, sassy, active, sentimental, optimistic, romantic, and feisty. She was ALWAYS ready to go on an adventure and loved to travel across the globe. She loved line-dancing and all the friends she made who shared her passion for having fun. Maria was always ready for a feast at Red Lobster or to watch a good spy movie. She also enjoyed spending time in the cool mountains of Ruidoso, NM, at her second home, where she spent her days line-dancing, betting at the horse races, and praying with her church group for all of our souls.

Maria was preceded in death by the love of her life, and husband of 50 years, Dr. Sheridan Sinclair Evans of McKinney & McAllen, TX, and her parents Carmen and Daniel Ramirez of Hidalgo, Texas.

Maria is survived by six children: Sheridan Scott Evans (Veronica) of McKinney, TX, Allison Bassman (Jarrod) of Dallas, TX, Steve Evans (Kathy) of Farmers Branch, TX, Claudia Tomlin of Minneapolis, MN, Libby Evans of Hancock, ME, & Wendy Evans of Machiasport, ME. Maria, affectionately known as Nana, is also survived by her 9 adoring grandchildren Andrew & Peter Evans of McKinney, TX, Isabella, Emma Kate & Jake Bassman of Dallas, TX, Christine & Laura Evans of Farmers Branch, TX, John Tomlin (Cindy) of Minneapolis, MN, Chris Tomlin of Wilmington, NC; and two great-grandchildren Ben & Grace Tomlin of Minneapolis, MN.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her bold and spirited nature remains ever present in our hearts and memories. Her tenacity, wit, and unmistakable spark will not be forgotten-they live on in the stories we share and the lives she touched.

A memorial mass will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, August 14th, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 652 Redbud Blvd. McKinney, TX 75069 with Father Bruce Bradley officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service.

Rest in peace Mrs. Evans. You will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you. My sisters and I really enjoyed having lunch or dinner in and around the McKinney area with you. I will forever remember your charasmatic personality and your love of family and fashion.

God rest your soul, Mary. You were a good person, full of love and hope. We used to lunch at Maxine Nichols, and you were always the life of the party. Your devotion and love for your husband and family was genuine and understood. Never an unkind word from you towards anyone. I have missed you since you moved away but carry only sweet memories and always will.
