María Herrera García nació el 12 de octubre de 1953 en San Antonio de la Sierra, Municipio de Tepehuanes, Durango, México. Era hija de Concepción Herrera y Trinidad García. María se casó con Juan Diego Valles Morales en México, y de esta unión nacieron 6 hijos. Tanto María como Juan Diego hicieron su hogar en Durango, México, y más tarde se mudaron a Tama, Iowa. Fue una excelente esposa, madre y ama de casa. También era conocida por ser una gran cocinera. En su tiempo libre, a María le gustaba pasar tiempo con su familia, especialmente con sus nietos. También disfrutaba viendo telenovelas, la jardinería y tenía cierta habilidad con las redes sociales.
Le sobreviven su esposo Juan Diego; sus cinco hijos: Oscar Ricardo (Edith Valles) Valles Herrera, Yesenia (Alvaro Andrade) Valles Herrera, Alberto Valles Herrera, Fidel (Rocio Valles) Valles Herrera y Pina Rayo (Jose Ascensión Duarte) Valles Herrera; 20 nietos; 6 bisnietos; y su hermana Esther Herrera García de Washington.
María ha sido precedida en la muerte por sus padres: Concepción y Trinidad; y por su hija María de Jesús Vallés Herrera.
(English) Maria Herrera Garcia, age 71, of Tama, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Iowa River Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.

Maria Herrera Garcia was born on October 12, 1953, in San Antonio de la Sierra, Municipio de Tepehuanes, Durango, Mexico. She was the daughter of Consepcion Herrera and Trinidad Garcia. Maria married Juan Diego Valles Morales in Mexico, and of this union, 6 children were born. Both Maria and Juan Diego made their home in Durango, Mexico and later moved to Tama, Iowa. She was a great wife, mother, and homemaker. She was also known as a great cook. In her free time, Maria enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also liked watching telenovelas, gardening and was a bit social media savvy.
She is survived by her husband Juan Diego; her five children: Oscar Ricardo (Edith Valles) Valles Herrera, Yesenia (Alvaro Andrade) Valles Herrera, Alberto Valles Herrera, Fidel (Rocio Valles) Valles Herrera, and Pina Rayo (Jose Ascension Duarte) Valles Herrera; 20 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and her sister Esther Herrera Garcia of Washington.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents: Consepcion and Trinidad; and her daughter Maria de Jesus Valles Herrera.
