Maria Kokolis Obituary
Maria was a proud University of Richmond Spider and went on to earn a graduate degree from William & Mary. She was an avid runner, having run numerous marathons; a woman of great spirit, and a source of boundless love and laughter for those who truly knew her.
Maria cherished her Greek heritage-especially during joyful occasions like weddings, christenings, or festive gatherings. If Greek music was playing, she was quick to join in, often leading traditional dances with joy, pride, and effortless grace.
Those who knew her well can attest to her famously unmatched sweet tooth-her favorite treat, without question, was ice cream with sprinkles. Oftentimes the ice cream was merely an afterthought.
Above all, Maria was fiercely devoted to her family. She filled their lives with unwavering love, warmth, and guidance. She is survived by her loving husband, Mario; four adored children, Paige, Michael, George, and Sara; beloved goldendoodle Meli; mother, Effie Vlasidis; and her siblings, Barbara Vlasidis, Irene Vlasidis, and Jimmy Vlasidis; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, George Vlasidis. They were all her greatest joy, and her love and strength will forever guide them.
A viewing will be held at Bucktrout of Williamsburg on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a Trisagion service offered at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4900 Mooretown Road, in Williamsburg at 11:00 a.m. to honor her memory. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
