Maria Luz Martinez (Lucy)

June 28, 1953 – October 30, 2025

Lucy was a resident of Albuquerque and was taken away from us in Rio Rancho. She was born to Pablita and Juan Martinez in northern New Mexico. She was a most cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law, and friend. She started working at the age of nine and helped support her mother and sisters. She became a single parent at a young age, earned a GED, attended cosmetology school, and achieved a cosmetology license. She worked tirelessly to provide for her only daughter, Stephanie, giving her the opportunities she herself did not have.

She adored and was proud of her grandchildren, Chelsea, Zachary, Andrew, and Isabella, and great-granddaughter, Kennedy. As a young lady, she enjoyed playing softball, singing, and dancing. As she got older, she looked forward to Chelsea’s Wednesday phone calls, talking sports with Zachary, debating politics with Andrew, and teaching Isabella Spanish. She had many friends from every walk of life and was able to start and hold a conversation with almost everyone she encountered. She was an intelligent and spirited woman who stood her ground and fought for what she believed was right qualities she instilled in her daughter and grandchildren. She was very passionate about the Lord and her belief in prayer, which gave her strength all the days of her life.

She started working for Skaggs in the 1970s, which is now Albertsons. To say she liked her job is an understatement. She worked for the same company for 47 years and was still employed there until the day she passed. She made many lasting relationships with her coworkers as well as with her customers. She especially enjoyed participating in various charitable activities hosted by Albertsons Supermarket. Anyone you talk to will tell you she had excellent work ethic and customer service.

Although she was taken from us unexpectedly, I can assure you she fought until the very end. We strongly believe and know she is now with the Lord. She will join both her parents, Pablita and Juan Martinez; sisters, Inez, Clorinda, and Olivia; her nephew, Anthony; and her brothers-in-law, Christobal, Bobby, and Nene; her aunt “Pepper”; and many other aunts, uncles, and relatives. We love you, and may you all rest in peace!

Her daughter, Stephanie; son-in-law, James; grandchildren, Chelsea, Zachary, Isabella, and Andrew; great-granddaughter, Kennedy; sisters, Miquella and Darlene; nieces, nephews, and cousins will always have her in their hearts, memories, and souls.

On behalf of all her family, we would like to thank her friends and everyone who was supportive of her until she went with her Maker. In memory of her, please read Psalm 26 (as this was her morning prayer). She was one of a kind!
