Maria Mendez

Maria Mendez of Harlingen, Texas was called home by the Lord on Friday, December 12, 2025 at the age of 89. She was born in Santa Monica (Los Potreros Ranch) April 17, 1936 to Eulalio and Angelita Mendez. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jose Maria Guadalupe Villarreal; 8 siblings, Juanita Garcia, Eynes Mendez, Lupita Mendez, Enemencio "Mencho" Mendez, Eulogio Mendez, Raul Mendez, Eulalio Mendez, Jr., and Antonia Mendez.

Maria is survived by her loving family, daughter, Elida Gonzalez; sons, Danny Gonzalez and Albertico Mendez (Catherine Weir); 5 grandchildren, Rocky Gonzalez (Casey), Joey Gonzalez, Tony Gonzalez (Lisa), Daniel Gonzalez, Jr. (Jennifer Cavazos), and Tiffany Elizarraraz (Simi); great grandchildren, Mac, Ian, Brooks, Leandra, Melody, TM, and Rocky Jr.; 2 brothers, Ezekiel Mendez and Francisco "Pancho" Mendez. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 9PM with the holy rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. A funeral procession will guide us to Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria for burial.
