Maria Elena Avila (Nena) was born March 30th, 1950, in Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico to Jesus Fuentes Delgadillo and Elvira Marrufo and passed away on January 17th, 2025, in Hobbs, NM surrounded by her family. Maria Elena was a very sweet and caring person who was sweet to everyone she met. She was a great listener and wasn’t judgmental towards anyone. Nena was big on her Catholic faith and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hobbs, NM. Nena had a big heart, and it showed in the way she loved and cared for her kids, grandkids and her kid’s spouses, and she loved keeping in touch with her family in Mexico. She also dearly loved her brother and sister who she talked to everyday. Nena was a shopper who liked going out to eat and having her coffee time with family and friends, she would often be heard saying “Vengase Comadre al Cafecito y a Platicar.” She also loved to cook and feed everyone whether it be family or friends. Maria dearly missed her late husband Jose Carlos Avila (Pepe), she would visit his grave every day.
Maria Elena was preceded in death by her parents Jesus Fuentes Delgadillo and Elvira Fuentes Marrufo, her husband Jose Carlos Avila (Pepe), her brother Federico Fuentes, and several nephews.
Maria is survived by her son Domingo Avila (Martha), 3 daughters Norma Ruelas, Celia Chavez (Joe), and Cristal Ruiz (Marsial), 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 brother Felipe Fuentes Sr. and 1 Sister Carmen Fuentes.
