NUNEZ Maria Taresa "Tere" Nunez passed on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the age of 82 after a long illness surrounded by family. Maria was born October 15, 1942 to Margarito and Cruz Gracia in McAllen Texas. To say she came from humble beginnings is an understatement. She grew up poor and worked hard from an early age. Maria only went to school until the 3rd grade. She learned to read English and Spanish with comic books. Thus her education honestly self-taught. Maria met and married Felip Nunez at the tender age of 13. They began and grew their family of six children in San Diego, Texas. In the 70's Maria began working as a housekeeper at La Hacienda Nursing Home in San Diego, Texas. Not long after she began to work in the kitchen. Maria took great pride and dedication in making sure the patients and staff were fed delicious food. Thanks to La Hacianda Nursing Home, Maria received her Dietary Management Certification from Bee County College. She worked at different nursing homes over the years but always came "Home
to La Hacienda. Maria was a proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She grew up in an environment where "I Love You" was not commonly said. Though given the chance she would brag about her children or grandchildren accomplishments. Maria was a dedicated, loyal, and patient wife, from the first time they met. She was preceded by her husband, Felip Nunez Sr.; her parents, Margarito and Cruz Gracia; four brothers, Vicente († Maria) Gracias, Margarito Gracia Jr., Lorenzo Gracia, and Lalo Gracia; two sisters, Rosario Reyes, Guadalupe Limon. Maria is survived by her two sons, Eduardo (Eudoria) Nunez of San diego, Texas; Felip (Rose) Nunez, Jr. of Marshfield, MO' four daughters, San Juana I. Nunez of Kingsville, Texas; Patricia (Mark) Floyd of Roxie, MS; Lillian Nunez (Joe Serna) of Benavides, Texas and Francisca C. Nunez of San Diego, Texas; grandson raised as a son, Xavier Felip Nunez; sister, Dolores (Salvador) Salinas of Pasadena, Texas.
