Maria Concepcion "Concha" Ortiz

Maria Concepcion "Concha" Ortiz, 78, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully at her home on May 8, 2025, after a long illness.
Born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, she was the daughter of Maria de Jesus Alvarez de Serrano and Marcelo Serrano. Concha came to San Antonio, where she began working at the now-historic Alameda Movie Theater and later at the Aztec Theater. She devoted over 35 years of her career to the Hilton Palacio del Rio, where she was recognized for her dedication and excellence, earning "Employee of the Year" honors twice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jose Angel Sanchez, and her youngest son, Sergio Andres Ortiz.
Concha is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Hector Amado Ortiz; her sons Hector Amado Ortiz Jr. and his wife Paula Ann Ortiz, and Juan Felipe Ortiz. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Her warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and work will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Alamo Funeral Chapels. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with the burial to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
