María Del Socorro Peña, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, wife, and devoted friend to many, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on June 20, 1936, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to parents Francisco and Ramona Arreola.
María married the love of her life, Manuel Alejandro Peña, of Laredo, Texas, and together they shared more than 31 years of marriage. After marrying, she relocated to Laredo, Texas, where she built a life grounded in love, family, and service to others.
For 30 years, María worked as a Case Manager and Social Worker for the Community Action Agency, dedicating her career to helping families and the elderly secure essential resources, including food, shelter, and utilities. Her compassion, professionalism, and dedication changed the lives of countless individuals throughout her years of service.
After retiring, María moved in with her daughter, Brenda Peña Quintanilla, where she became an instrumental part in raising her twin grandchildren, Brendan and Carleen Quintanilla. She was their guiding light—supportive, loving, and steadfast. María was a pillar of strength for Brenda and her family, offering unconditional love and unwavering support through every challenge and triumph.
María’s legacy is one of perseverance, honesty, and devotion. She was admired for her strong decision-making, steady presence, and commitment to always doing what was right. She was someone people could depend on without question—never giving up on those she loved and always showing up, both in moments of joy and times of hardship. She never let her family down and inspired all who knew her to lead with compassion and integrity.
María was the proud mother of seven children, including two sets of twin boys. She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Alejandro Peña; three of her older sons—Manuel Alejandro Peña Jr., Eduardo Peña, and Daniel Peña; her daughter-in-law, Doris Peña; her parents; and her sisters.
She is survived by her loving children and grandchildren: Brenda Peña Quintanilla, Carlos Peña, Victor Peña, César Peña, Samantha Peña Moore, Stephanie Peña, Kassandra Peña, Klarissa Peña, Brendan and Carleen Quintanilla, and by her cherished sister, Juven Arreola Gamboa.
María’s strength, kindness, loyalty, and dedication to family will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Her life was a testament to selflessness and grace, and her impact will continue to shape future generations.
She will be deeply missed and eternally remembered.
May she rest in peace.
Funeral services will be held to celebrate Maria's remarkable life, where family and friends will gather to pay their respects and honor her memory. All are welcome to join in this heartfelt tribute to a remarkable woman who will be deeply missed.
