Maria C. Rodriguez went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 28, 2025, at the age of 99. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her own home with her grandson, Tom, by her side. Born on August 9, 1926, in Pearsall, Texas, Maria was the oldest of thirteen children born to Gabriel and Angelina Cuevas.
Maria is survived by her daughters, Mary Lou Alcala and Rosemary Chavera; grandson, Tom Rodriguez; brother, Jesus “Chuy” Cuevas; and sister, Ofelia “Faye” Carrizales. She will be deeply missed by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Tomas Rodriguez, Sr.; her sons, Tomas Rodriguez, Jr. and Alfredo Rodriguez; her daughter, Irene Cuevas Salazar; her brothers, Senovio, Alfredo, Gabriel, Juan, Guadalupe, Mike, Cruz, and Antonio; and her sisters, Anita Garcia and Julia.
Maria will be remembered for her strong work ethic and the example she instilled in her family. She worked for many years as a cook at the local hospital. After her retirement, she kept busy cleaning houses, doing laundry, and selling tamales. There was no quit in her as she worked well into her eighties. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of her family, with whom she enjoyed spending time.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to Cardinal Hospice, especially to Gwen, Karen, and Cecilio, for their compassionate care and expertise. The family also expresses deep gratitude to Dr. Jose Sosa for his kindness and for treating Maria as if she were his own mother.
In accordance with her wishes, no funeral service will be held.
