Maria Clarissa Romero

Maria Clarissa Ilagan Romero, lovingly known as "Issa", passed away on December 2, 2025. Born in the Philippines, Issa was the daughter of Nita R. (Mayuga) and the late Felix M. Ilagan, Sr. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States in 1996. Issa worked as a paraprofessional in the Red Clay School District and was actively involved in Holy Angels Catholic Church. She served as a catechist in the parish's Sunday school program and could often be found in the church volunteering her time. Issa, along with her husband George were very active in the Couples for Christ community, where they served as youth coordinators. Issa looked forward to her annual trips to the Philippines to visit her mother and extended family. Issa was the cornerstone of faith and love in her family, always leading with compassion and unwavering belief in God's plan. Her presence brought warmth, strength, and unity to everyone around her.
Issa was the heart and soul of the Romero family. She was the devoted wife of 35 years, to George Romero; dedicated mother to Elise (Neil), Josh, and Timothy; a loving grandmother to Theo and Julienne; beloved daughter of Nita Mayuga Ilagan and the late Felix Ilagan, Sr.; and dear sister of Elizabeth Quinto, Jose Maria (Rosario) and Felix, Jr. (Marissa) Ilagan.
A visitation will be held on Saturday December 13th from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Rd, Newark, DE 19711. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road Newark, DE 19713.
