Maria De La Luz “Lucy” Serrano

1942 – 2025

Maria De La Luz Serrano, affectionately known by all who loved her as “Lucy,” passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in Cameron, in her home surrounded by the warmth and presence of her devoted family. She was 83 years old.

A Life Rooted in Heritage and Heart

Born in Mexico, Lucy carried the vibrant spirit of her heritage with her throughout her life. She was a woman of remarkable character, known for her tireless work ethic and her deep love for the traditions of her home. Whether she was sharing her love through her cooking, enjoying her favorite music, or gathering everyone together, Lucy’s pride in her roots was evident to all.

Above all else, Lucy lived for her family. She found her greatest happiness in the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished their time together, especially their frequent outings to eat at her favorite local spots, where memories were made over shared meals and conversation.

Family Legacy

Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Dora Vidal. Her legacy of love, strength, and tradition continues through those she leaves behind:

Daughters: Sandra Sherlin and her husband, Ron; Laura Holguin and her husband, Willie.Grandchildren: Jonathan Sherlin and his wife, Jamie; April Espinoza and her husband, James; Alison Monsisvais and her husband, Tristan; and Jason Holguin and his wife, Ryan.Great-Grandchildren: Adriana Sherlin, Leah Sherlin, Theodore Monsisvais, Nehemiah Espinoza, Micah Espinoza, Ezekiel Espinoza, August Monsisvais, and Isabela Espinoza.


Lucy was a pillar of strength and a source of constant affection for her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her kind spirit and the beautiful traditions she passed down.
