MARIA WIGGINS
POSEYVILLE, INDIANAMaria (Kowalczyk) Wiggins, 77, of
Poseyville, Indiana, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. surrounded by the loving staff of North River Health Campus in Evansville, Indiana.
Maria was born to Czestaw "Chester" & Ruth (Kilworth) Kowalczyk in Hitchin, England, January 8, 1949. She attended St. Francis' Catholic College in Letchworth, England for both her elementary and high-school education. Her career included working for a lawyer in England after graduation, Hirsch's Store, Red Geranium Enterprises, and others, but most importantly to her being a stay-at-home Mom.
Maria's life changed forever when her and friends attended a 4th of July Celebration at Chicksands Air Force Base in England, the day she met her soulmate John Robert Wiggins who was stationed there. The joke to John was always that the day we gained our independence from England, he lost his. They were married June 26, 1971 in Letchworth, England.
Surviving Maria are her daughter: Anna Maria Wiggins of Wadesville, Indiana; son: Jason Robert Wiggins of
Poseyville, Indiana; her beloved and faithful puppy Marley; brother-in-law: Wayne T. Wiggins (Jackie) of
Poseyville, Indiana; beloved cousins: Steve & Rosie Wiggins of Evansville, Indiana; sister: Anna Kowalczyk, Ipswich, England; brothers: Stefan Kowalczyk (Susan), Ipswich, England and Paul Kowalczyk (Michelle), Southampton, England; sister-in-law: Carol Kowalczyk, Hitchin, England; several nieces and nephews: Darrick Wiggins (Jenny), Tricia Murphy (Jason), both of
Poseyville, Indiana, along with Ben, Sam, Laura, Helaina, Daniel, Naomi & Joshua, all of England.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; brother: Chester Kowalczyk; mother and father-in law: Robert & Carolyn Wiggins and a sister-in-law: Suzanne Curry.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of North River Health Campus for their care, love, and compassion to Maria. After suffering from a fall in early August life was a rollercoaster for her until she moved to North River in November. She became a social butterfly, always busy with activities and events which she enjoyed so much.
Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. with a Rosary/Memorial service starting at 5 p.m., Sunday, February 1, 2026 at the Werry Funeral Home in
Poseyville, Indiana.
Public graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, February 2, 2026 at St. Francis Cemetery near
Poseyville, Indiana.
