Mariam Antigoni Psimaris, 98, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. She was the beloved daughter of Katherine Anastasia Zampikos and George Mihali Zampikos. And adored sister of Mitchell Zampikos. Mariam was born on May 24, 1927, in
Bloomington, Illinois.
Her early years were spent traveling between Bloomington and Athens, Greece, where her family maintained deep ties. When World War II broke out in Europe in 1938, Mariam and her family were forced to leave Athens on just one week's notice, carrying only a single suitcase between them. They often shared with pride that they returned to the United States by landing in New York on the Fourth of July-a moment that symbolized both loss and hope.
Before returning to Illinois, the family traveled through Texas, where they were persuaded to settle in Corpus Christi. There, they opened Maurice's, a cherished local eating establishment. Corpus Christi became Mariam's lifelong home.
Mariam attended Incarnate Word Academy and Del Mar College. She met and married the love of her life, Achille James Psimaris. As a young newlywed she spent several years in Brooklyn, New York before eventually returning home to Corpus Christi.
She began her professional career at State National Bank, working in the proof department for six years. She later joined the Corpus Christi Independent School District, where she dedicated 26 years of service before retiring.
A woman of deep faith, Mariam was a proud and devoted member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. She was a longtime member of the church choir and a devoted member of the Delphi Club. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life, as did her commitment to her church community.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Victoria Anastasia Zannaras; her son-in-law, Anthony Zannaras; and her cherished grandchildren, Mariam Afrodity Zannaras and George James Zannaras.
A Trisagion service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Both services will take place at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park, with the Makaria to be held afterward in the St. Nicholas Church Hall.
