Marian Brown, 98, lifelong resident of Coralville, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, surrounded by her family.

A graveside committal service is planned for 11 AM, Friday, October 24, 2025 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Following the graveside committal a time of fellowship will be held from 12 PM to 2 PM at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Home in Coralville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Coralville Public Library, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City or Friends of the Animal Center Foundation.

Marian was born February 19, 1927, in Coralville, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (McMillan) Alwine. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. On November 24, 1948, Marian married Eugene Brown in Iowa City.

She was employed for 35 years with Northwestern Bell, where she was an operator and a payroll clerk. She was then employed at UIHC for ten years as an operator.

Marian was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Telephone Pioneers, and was also a longtime volunteer at the Coralville Public Library. Starting in 2007, she took annual trips with her daughter. Their favorite places to visit included Cape Cod and Niagara Falls. Marian also cherished the company of her pet companions, who were included in all their trips.

Marian is survived by her two children, Becky (Dave) Crooks, and Rick Brown (Pam); her grandson, Garrison (Hannah) Brown, and their sons, Isaac and Aidan; her siblings, Daryle (Pauline) Alwine and Donna Alt; sister-in-law, Rochelle Alwine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eugene; her son, Gary; her beloved step-mother, Ruth Lorack; her brother, Kenneth Alwine; and brother-in-law, George Alt.
