Marian O. Garrity

Marian Garrity passed away on August 19 at the age of 98. Marian was born on May 2, 1927, To Olaf Olsen and Margaret Lundin Olsen. She grew up in Dundalk and St Helena and graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1944. She then attended the Bard Avon secretarial school in Baltimore and began working as an executive secretary for the Baugh Chemical Company. While attending night courses at Johns Hopkins University she renewed an acquaintance with James Garrity, and they married in 1951. She left Baugh in 1958 after they adopted their son Kevin. Their daughter Jane was adopted in 1960. By all accounts Kevin was a perfect child; Jane not so much (you may be able to tell which of her children wrote this obituary). In any event James and Marian had a wonderful 36 years of marriage that lasted until his death in 1987.
Marian was a long time member (70 years) of the Sparrows Point Country Club and of St Timothy's (and later) New Light Lutheran Church. She enjoyed golf and bridge,and traveled all over the world. Her hobbies included shopping, shopping, shopping and shopping. Also, she liked to shop.

She is survived by her children; Kevin J Garrity and Jane Garrity Plantholt, and her son in law William Plantholt. She is also survived by 3 grand children; Phillip J Garrity, James R Plantholt (and his wife Lindsay) and Katherine Plantholt (Katie) Brautigan (and her husband Josh). She also leaves behind 3 great grandchildren; Camden Brautigan, Theodore Plantholt, and Henry Plantholt.
She will be missed by her family and friends, and also the stockholders of Talbots, Boscovs and Costco.

Visitation will be held at the family owned Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk, Inc., 7922 Wise Ave., on Monday from 10-11 AM. A funeral service will begin at 11 AM. Interment will be private. A yard sale will be scheduled at a later date (no early birds).
