Ms. Marian Gee

Marian Vesta Ann Gee was born on February 14, 1946, to Marian Elizabeth Coleman and James Herbert Coates. As the eldest of ten children, Vesta naturally stepped into a role of leadership, love, and responsibility-one she carried with grace, strength, and an open heart throughout her life. At a young age she embraced her faith in Christ and was baptized at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ.

Vesta was preceded in death by her father, James Herbert Coates, her sister, Wathena Michelle Coleman.

While attending high school, Vesta met Leonard Gee Jr. Their union led to marriage in 1965, and together they were blessed with four children: Tracye, Renita, Leonard III, and Shawn. Though the marriage later ended in February 1972, Vesta remained a devoted and loving mother. She later welcomed her youngest child, Lauren Payne, whose father is Herman Rogers Sr. and her beloved bonus father Lawrence Woods Sr.

Vesta graduated from Central High School in 1965 and continued her education at Penn Valley Community College. She dedicated many years of service to healthcare, beginning her career at Osteopathic Hospital, later working at St. Luke's Hospital, and ultimately retiring from Research Medical Center. Her work ethic, compassion, and commitment to caring for others left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

In her earlier years, Vesta found joy and community in bowling. Friday nights often found her at King Louie on Troost, where laughter, friendship, and friendly competition filled the lanes.

Vesta leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Marian Coleman Hollimon; her siblings: Terrence Coates (Vera), James Coates, Gary Coates (Eunice), Robert Coates (Tonnie), Roxanne Coates, John Coates, Nannette Hollimon, Kimberly Franklin, and Beverly Hollimon V. She is also survived by her five children: Tracye Tyler (Jeffrey), Renita Gee, Leonard Gee III, Shawn Gee, and Lauren Payne.

Her legacy continues through her 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, including her longtime friend Mrs. LilyMarie Jones of Pocono, PA.

Marian Vesta Ann Gee will be remembered for her strength, her devotion to family, her nurturing spirit, and the love she poured into every life she touched.
