Marian (Sidelmann) Stubing, 87, a longtime resident of Bellerose Village, passed away on February 7, 2025, after a long journey with Alzheimer's. Although a first generation American, she was also proud of her Danish heritage. Born in New York City, Marian was the daughter of Albert and Mathilde Sidelmann. She spent the majority of her formative years in St Albans, NY and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She earned her Associate of Arts from Nassau Community College while raising her family.
Faith and family were core to Marian. She was a lifelong Missouri Synod Lutheran. She met her spouse, Henry D., and many dear friends while participating in the church's Walther League activities.
As a child she loved singing in the choir and shared her beautiful voice throughout her life. Marian loved many styles of music, both instrumental and vocal. Among her favorites were hymns, chamber music, James Gallway, The Three Tenors, Andre Bocelli, and more.
Prior to starting the family she always wanted, Marian worked for Irving Trust Company. As her children grew, she taught vacation bible school for a number of years. Her love of children led her to become a teacher's aide in the West Hempstead School System and then the Floral Park Bellerose Elementary School District. To have a book read to you by Marian was every child's delight as she had a special way of bringing books to life.
Marian's love of the outdoors led her and her family to explore Long Island's numerous nature preserves and many hours were spent happily traipsing in the woods and along the seashores. She felt blessed and fortunate to be able to travel locally and internationally as a family. Her hobbies included cooking, needlework, reading, word puzzles, and gardening. In early retirement, she enjoyed being part of the Cornell Master Gardeners program.
We are thankful to the Carmelite Sisters and the Ozanam Hall of Queens Nursing Home for providing care for Marian for the past 10 years.
Marian is survived by her devoted children, Henry A. Stubing and his wife, Terri; Anne Stubing and her significant other, Sean; and Louise Reeves and her husband, David; cherished grandchildren, Kevin and Madeline Stubing and Alexa Reeves; her younger twin siblings, Laurids Sidelmann and Meta Ponczek; and her niece and nephew, Kristin Heesters and Eric Ponczek and their families. Marian was predeceased by her husband, Henry D.
Visitation is Monday, February 10, 2025, 4-8 PM at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, 29 Atlantic Avenue, Floral Park, NY with a 6pm Prayer Service. Internment is private.
Tributes in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America www.alzfdn.org or Lutheran Social Services https://lutheranservices.org/.
