Marianne Hughner

Marianne Hughner, 92 years old, died peacefully at her home in Phelps, New York on Friday, August 8, 2025. She was born March 24th, 1933 in Geneva, New York and raised in Phelps by her mother Nellie Mae Hughner Hughson and Arthur Hughson.

Marianne graduated from Phelps Central School in 1951 and leaves three special high school friends: June Avery, Marge Wadhams and Janice DeBaere. She was best friends with Carmela Barbalace Serrett and loved being part of their family. After graduation, Marianne was secretary for the company building the NYS Thruway. She then went to Garlock's in Palmyra becoming Freight Rate Clerk retiring February, 1995 after 40 years. Marianne also waitressed at Margroves Dairy Bar and The Phelps Hotel. After retirement and taking care of her mother and babysitting her niece Brenda, she became a greeter at Geneva Walmart. She loved being around people.

Marianne knitted before arthritis disabled her and she turned to voracious reading with her beloved cats Sophia and Patches on her lap. A kind gentle woman, she loved trips to Toronto and New York; taking rides around the Finger Lakes; talking to friends on the phone; sitting on the porch. She was a loyal Patriot's fan. For a small woman, everything that she did needed to include food::chocolate, onion rings and pasta.

Surviving her are: sister, Carol Lord; brother Howard (Sylvia) Hughson of Phelps. Nieces: Brenda (George) Nudd of Phelps and Victoria Main of Long Beach, Long Island. Great niece Allison Nudd and Great nephew Dylan Nudd, who was a big help to her.

Predeceasing Marianne were: her parents and sister Nancy Hughson; Grandparents Daisy and Theodore Hughner; Uncle Theodore Hughner.

Marianne was thankful for the caring friendship of the Lord, Cartwright and Springer families.

Burial services will be held at 11:00 Thursday, August14, 2025 at Resthaven Cemetery, Main Street, Phelps.
