Marie Virginia Hatfield Burns concluded her life journey at the age of 84, passing away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025, transitioning from earthly struggles to eternal rest. She was lovingly cared for by her niece, Naydene D. Glazier Porter-Reeder of Forks Township, Pennsylvania.
Marie was born to Claude R. (deceased April 2, 1973) and Mable (Wood) Hatfield (deceased September 21, 1987) on September 12, 1940, in Johnson City, New York. She spent her formative years at 124 Moeller Street, Binghamton, along with her siblings: sister Beverly Jane Hatfield Goodwin Glazier (deceased October 5, 2020), who was married to John Glazier until his passing on June 14, 2005, of Easton, PA; brother James Fredrick ( deceased April 24, 1934); and sister Norma Hatfield Hendler, who was married to Harold E. until his passing on October 31, 2017, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Marie graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1958, where she excelled as a baton twirler in national competitions and enjoyed roller-skating. Her professional career saw her serving as an Executive Secretary for several top Executives in the Binghamton area until her retirement in 2005.
Marie become the seasons blushing bride on June 7, 1967, when she wed Edmund R. Burns (deceased September 12, 2020). The couple welcomed their only son Timothy R. Burns in February of 1970.
Marie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tim R. Burns and Jillian Harrington of Champions Gate, Florida; her granddaughter Mclean Pillion and Sara Burns-Pillion of Nashville, Tennessee; grandsons Andrew Burns of New York, New York, and Michael Kuruc III of Syracuse, New York; nieces Kevin and Jennifer McMorrow of Ossining, New York, Russell J. Reeder and Naydene D. Glazier Porter-Reeder of Forks Township, Pennsylvania, John and Suzanne Devlin of Franklin, Massachusetts, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 10am to 11am at the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc, 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY 13904. A Funeral Service will follow at 11am. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
