Robert Pendlebury Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Robert "Bob" Lawrence Pendlebury, age 82, of Kirkwood, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, after a courageous, years-long battle with prostate cancer.
Born and raised in Binghamton, New York, Bob was a lifelong resident there until early 2025, when he relocated to Maryland to be cared for by his daughter Danielle "Dani" Pendlebury.
Bob pursued a dedicated career in nursing for over 50 years. He began as an RN at the Binghamton Psychiatric Center, where over the years he rose to the rank of Program Manager, the highest RN position in his area of responsibility and was well respected and loved by his colleagues. After his retirement from that role in 2000, Bob embarked on a second rewarding chapter of public service, working for over 20 years as a Correctional Intake Nurse with the Broome County Correctional Facility. He was especially proud of his role as a "book-in" nurse and genuinely enjoyed the team of individuals he worked with.
Although sometimes a man of few words, Bob was known for his dry wit and perfectly timed one-liners. Those who got to know him discovered a quiet strength, a kind warm heart, and a ready laugh. His easygoing personality and gentle nature made him easy to love. He was also big into sports and was an avid golfer throughout his life, participating in and winning many local tournaments, and relishing the camaraderie of the golf course.
Bob was predeceased by his wonderful wife, Bernadine "Bernie" Pendlebury; his parents, Lawrence and Jean Pendlebury; and his brother, Thomas Pendlebury. He is survived by his children, Robyn Pendlebury of Chapin, South Carolina, Dani Pendlebury (and her wife Cara) of Phoenix, Maryland, and son, Thomas Pendlebury of Binghamton, New York.
He will be deeply missed by family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege to know him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 24th, 2025 from 3:00 to 4:30PM, followed by a service at 4:30PM at Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, located at 137 Robinson Street., Binghamton, NY 13904 to celebrate Bob's life, his compassion, his humor, and the many lives he touched throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a cancer research or prostate cancer awareness foundation in Bob's honor.
