Obituary published on Legacy.com by Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 15, 2025.
Farca, Marie C. age 90 passed away on October 12, 2025. She was the daughter of the ever admired and respected George and Catherine Farca. She was a native Philadelphian and a longtime resident of her beloved Bucks County, PA. starting in 1967, she resided in Yardley and thereafter in the surrounding community of Lower Makefield Township. Bucks County and the Delaware River Towns, being what they are, Marie became a patron and regular visitor to art galleries and at juried shows spanning the art world between Rittenhouse Square all the way to Phillips Mill in Upper Bucks and everywhere in between, not to mention beyond.
Marie graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Education, in 1957. No one could have loved and appreciated more the variety, depth, breadth, and far flung disciplines of coursework open to Penn's undergraduates. At Penn she became a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. In 1955 her musicality and creativity led AOPi to the first place prize in the annual Pan Hellenic song fest competition of the era. The awarded, engraved, silver tray, given into Marie's keeping, will now pass into the possession of another '55 song fest participant, for as Marie had been delighted to see, a nucleus of members stayed in touch with one another. Beyond all that there was to treasure at university, the AOPi members made enduring caring friendships spanning well over sixty-five years.
On campus or off, music always mattered whether Marie was spiritedly at the sorority house piano at the annual open house the day of the Army-Navy game in the city – one song flowing seamlessly into another – or conducting the 50-plus-voices-strong, four-part acapella church choir, with which she had grown up and whose rich score she helped keep alive.
Marie began teaching in sweet and charming Riverton, NJ and evolved as an educator to be invited to become a demonstration teacher. This work she did for close to a decade, guiding and influencing third year college students majoring in education enrolled at The College of New Jersey in Ewing Township. Dovetailing a venturesome love of travel and her professional skills, Marie also co-authored multiple series of educational materials based in trips to western and eastern Europe and throughout Africa. Materials developed included hundreds of color photos, their accompanying audio scripts, related classroom activities, and teachers' guides, and were produced under contract to Eye Gate House in New York. In between, she enjoyed and wholeheartedly returned the warmth of no fewer than five successive generations of her family.
Over fifty years ago, two slim novels written by Marie C. Farca were published by Doubleday. EARTH and its sequel, COMPLEX MAN, were well received. EARTH was translated into French and entitled TERRE under the imprint of Editions Denoel of Paris. It was also made available in Braille. Original hardcovers of the early 1970s have been joined now by paperback editions. After over half a century since they first appeared, Marie was beyond gratified to have lived long enough and to have learned that her books are out there again, available once more, via Amazon. Nothing could have made her happier.
Marie will be missed by a wonderful array of engaging vibrant friends, blessedly many virtually spanning her entire lifetime, and by former students dating as far back as the Fifties. She is mourned by dear and devoted relatives of the Onsa, Guinan, Bebian, and Farca families here and abroad. In lieu of flowers, donations I.M.O. may be made to The Penn Fund, supportive of undergraduate education of the University of Pennsylvania, 2929 Walnut Street, Philadelphia PA 19104.
A Memorial Service for Marie will be held on Thursday October 23rd 2025 at Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, 323 E. Washington Ave.
Newtown, PA 18940. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with the Memorial Service to follow at 11:00am. A private interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA at a later date.
