A life -long resident of Dover, Marie graduated from Sacred Heart School in Dover, Dover High School and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Paterson, NJ.
Upon graduation from nursing school, she was employed by Dover General Hospital and became the Supervisor of the Emergency Dept. and eventually became the Assistant Director of Nursing on the 3-11 shift. Her nursing career spanned 45 years of service.
She was a member of the General Duty Section of the N.J. State Nurses' Association and held the position of Corresponding Secretary and Vice President Locally. Marie was Vice President of the Dover General Hospital Professional Nurses Association. She was also a member of the N.J. Chapter of EDNA – Emergency Dept. Nurses Association.
Marie was a poll worker in Dover for the Morris County Board of Elections for over 40 years. She was appointed in January1994 to the Dover Board of Health and served as its President from 1998 to 2017. She was also a member of the Morris County Medical Rescue Corps.
Marie is predeceased by her husband Francis R. Hoffman in 2018. She is survived by her son James and his wife Jill of Parsippany and three granddaughters; Erin, Rachel and Sara. Marie is also survived by her son John of Budd Lake, her 2 sisters; Eleanor Kehoe and her husband Richard of Succasunna and Margaret Beach of Ridgeland, South Carolina, her brother Stephen and his wife Debbie of Newton; as well as several nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Visitation 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Tuttle Funeral Home 272 Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com).
Funeral Mass 10:00 AM with Liturgy of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Richards Ave, Dover on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Mine Hill

Marie was the epitome of what a nurse should be. From the first day I met her at Dover General Hospital, I was inspired by her kindness and professionalism, both in her work and in her personal life. She had a remarkable gift for remembering the details that mattered. Whether you were celebrating a special occasion or going through a difficult time, Marie took the time to ask how you were doing.
She wrote long, handwritten thank-you notes, each one personal and heartfelt, a true reflection of her goodness. Her uniform was always impeccable, and she wore her nursing cap with pride, even when no others did, except for Fitzie.
I hope Marie knew how deeply her compassion and generosity influenced my life, and the lives of so many others. She will be truly missed.
