Born on May 20, 1940, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of Corbitt “Tobe” Simpson and Leila Crum Simpson. After graduating from Moultrie High School in 1958, Marie began her career at Riverside Manufacturing Co. She later took the longest newspaper route in town, traveling over 100 miles daily to ensure the community stayed informed. Her journey continued as a bus driver for the Colquitt County Board of Education, safely transporting generations of students.
Her true passion, however, was found in flowers and design. She opened Marie's Flower & Gift Shoppe, where she poured her heart into creating stunning floral arrangements for over 42 years. Her talent and artistic touch brought joy and peace to countless families.
Among all her achievements, Marie was most proud of her two sons, Brett and Gregg, and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. Her love, creativity, and unwavering dedication to family and community will always be remembered.
Beyond her career, Marie was a woman of faith who loved serving at her church. She devoted her time to teaching Sunday School and guiding young hearts as a youth director. She was of the Christian faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her adored husband, W.C. “Strawberry” Johnson, Jr.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Brett Johnson of Moultrie and Gregg Johnson and wife Dawn of Sunset, LA; grandchildren Brandon Johnson and wife Olivia and Garrett Johnson; and her fur babies, Lil’ Bit, Toby, and Bella.
