Marie Theresa Kelleher

Marie Theresa (Darcy) Kelleher, 82, of Cresco, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the Hospice House of Monroe County, surrounded by her daughters and her dearest friend, Marianne Powers. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Marie (Merk) Darcy. Marie was a lifelong educator. She started her career teaching in Good Shepherd Catholic School in Marine Park, Brooklyn, where she and her brother as well as her 3 daughters had all once been students. Upon leaving Catholic private school she then became a teacher in the diverse neighborhood of Bedford Stuyvesant, where she proudly worked for 9 years not only as an educator but as a Mentor and Leader to the entire teaching staff. She took a sabbatical from teaching to raise her 3 daughters.
After relocating to the Pocono Mountains, she returned to her love and passion to educate creating an ESL Program while serving as an adjunct Professor at Northampton Community College. She volunteered as a religious instructor for years at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Pocono Pines. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafts, particularly making dried and silk flower arrangements. She was very social and loved to travel and explore other cultures. She loved to dance and listen to music, especially Rod Stewart! She loved to cook and try new recipes and especially loved going out to dinner and having a glass or two of Pinot Grigio. She was an animal lover, surrounded by dogs and cats all of her life. She would "cat or dog sit" for her family and friends without hesitation; even at the expense of a pair of sneakers ruined by one of her furry granddoggies. Above all, Marie was a supportive and beloved Mother. Her happiest moments were when she spent time with her children and grandchildren, right up until the last few days of her life.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Audrey Loughran and her husband, Kieran; Barbara Dunlap and her husband Scott; and Valerie Kelleher. Her two grandchildren, Sophia Loughran and Devin Loughran, as well as her step grandson, River Loughran and finally her former husband and close friend, Danny Kelleher. Marie is preceded in death by her brother, Edward Darcy.
Services: A viewing will take place from 5:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. on Thursday, June 5, 2025 in the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco Pa 18326. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00A.M. on Friday, June 6, 2025 in Most Holy Trinity Parish, 236 PA-390, Cresco, PA 18326 where a viewing will take place from 9:30A.M. until the time of Mass.
