Marie Elizabeth Kuechler (née Algozine) of Long Beach, Mississippi, passed peacefully on February 18, 2025, at the age of 87. Marie, affectionately known to friends and family as Blue, was born in 1937 in East Chicago, Indiana. She attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and Bishop Noll High School. She cherished memories from her childhood of sharing her grandparents’ home on Olcott Avenue with her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In the early 1960s, Marie was a flight attendant for Continental Airlines. She later met her husband, Ron, when they both were working at Union Station in Chicago, Illinois. The two were married in 1966. They started their family in Highland, Indiana, before settling in Spring, Texas. Marie worked for Klein Independent School District, retiring as a secretary in the district’s transportation department. She loved animals, and she doted on her dogs: Schnoodles, Maggie, and Annie. Marie and Ron moved in 2013 to Long Beach, Mississippi, where they spent their remaining years close to their beloved grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by Ron, her devoted husband of 56 years; her parents, Joseph and Irene Algozine; and her sister, Joan Kretz.
Marie is survived by her brother, Joseph; her children, Ronald, Jr., and Gretchen (Jeff) Loftus; her grandchildren, Tobin, Sean, and Mary Anna; and a host of loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or to the Humane Society of South Mississippi. Marie’s family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers at Traditions Hospice and Pass Christian Health and Rehabilitation.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, is serving the family.
