Dorothy Marie Lindon – please call her Marie – was born on March 19, 1941, to Dorothy (Weideman) and Clarence Kruse in Sioux City, Iowa. At her birth, she joined two older brothers (Jim & Bud) and an older sister (Sue). Three years later, her sister, Cookie, came along. The family of seven was filled with lots of love and humor. Through much of Marie’s younger years, she shared a bed with her little sister, Cookie, subjecting her to many jokes and shenanigans. Of course, when they got older, she and Cookie would continuously amaze people with how long they could talk on the phone (we’re talking hours).

As soon as Marie graduated high school, she married Vernon D. Schnack and moved to Shelby, Iowa. Together they had one son, Jeffrey Dale and later welcomed a daughter, Jean Marie. When that marriage ended, Marie moved to Oklahoma where her older sister, Sue would help her get back on her feet. It was there that she met and married Dale L. Lindon on July 20, 1973. Dale’s daughter, Dana Jo Lindon joined the newly formed family the following year. That home was also filled with lots of faith, love and laughter. Unfortunately, after 15 years of marriage, Dale passed away.

Marie then reconnected with friends she had in Shelby and became partners with Allan Havick. They lived at the Rafter H Ranch where Marie enjoyed getting to know his family, learning about the cattle business, traveling to different ranches (sometimes her brother Bud would join), and gardening. She and Allan moved to Harlan in 2012 and were together until his death in May 2023.

She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. Her family thought she was one of the best cooks in the land. Throughout her life, she thoroughly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. With her children, grandchildren and just about anyone else who would join her, she would play board games, just about any game of cards or dominos, and put together many puzzles. She truly enjoyed college sports, especially OU & U of I football…and anyone playing against the Huskers. She also liked to entertain everyone with lots of funny songs and limericks. Of course, she also enjoyed teaching all the kids how to use swear words in their humor.

Marie passed away peacefully at her home on April 5, 2024, at the age of 83 with family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Jim and Bud Kruse; sister, Sue Hemmingson; husband, Dale Lindon; and partner, Allan Havick. She is survived her sister, Cookie Johnson from Council Bluffs; three children: Jeff Schnack, Dana (Mike) Lindon-Burgett both of Oklahoma and Jean (Scott) Coffin of Searsboro; Jeff’s children: Daniel, Jeremy, and Nicole Schnack all living in Oklahoma and Jean’s children: Kelly (Chris) DeJong, Kristy (Josh) Hagedorn, and Katy Sevcik all living in or near Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and other family and friends.

The family of Marie Lindon would like to extend a warm thanks to all the health care providers and friends that allowed her to live her last days at home. Per her wishes, Marie will be cremated and then later buried in Hallett, Oklahoma next to Dale Lindon. Marie requested that there be no formal memorial services.
