CARBONDALE – Marie Terese McGlennen, 82, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Marie was born to John and Marie Kernahan on March 1, 1943 in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Susan Livingston of Carbondale; grandchildren Beatriz, Candy, Annaleigh, and Jasper Stanwood; Opal, Camille, Ruby, and Juniper Livingston; and sister, Angela Kernahan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Kernahan.
Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was vibrant and lively even in old age. She loved traveling, reading, painting, and helping others. If you needed advice, Marie was the one to turn to. Marie also enjoyed cooking and the opera.
In her youth, Marie joined the Army. After that, she went on to college and graduated with a Master’s in English. She worked in the Los Angeles Court for 27 years, but her true passion was teaching, which she discovered through working as an ESL teacher later on. She retired to Carbondale in 2005, where she met new friends, and spent many beautiful times with her daughter and grandkids, teaching them to bake, clean, help with yardwork, and make art.
Services for Marie will take place at 12:00 pm on Monday, December 8, 2025 at Meredith Funeral Home with Rev. David Misher officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Cobden City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of service.
