Marie McManus Moore was born on June 5, 1931, to Ceila and Andrew J McManus in the Bronx borough of New York City. Educated in New York City schools, she received her RN from Fordham University and later her B.S. in Nursing Education from Columbia University. After joining the Air Force, she met her husband Patrick Moore at Andrews Air Force Base, whom she married in 1960. A position at the VA Medical Center for him would bring them to Biloxi, MS, where they would establish a lifelong residency. She would later receive an honorable discharge as a Captain in the Air Force Reserves.
Their first child, Jeffrey, was born in 1962 and second child, Jennifer, in 1969. Marie became very involved with her children’s lives, serving as PTA President and supporting all athletics and groups they were involved with growing up. Professionally, she worked at Dukate Senior Center in supervisory roles, as well as a nurse for the Veterans Administration in both Biloxi and Gulfport, where she spent most of her career.
During those years, she also served in various roles at Bethel Lutheran Church. She was a member there for 50-plus years and Bethel became a cornerstone in her life. After retirement, Marie spent many years travelling to see both her children and spouses, and then grandchildren, for holidays, birthdays, and special events. She was even able to enjoy several overseas trips with her beloved brother, John.
Marie is survived by her son, Jeffrey Moore (Jan); daughter, Jennifer Hunter (George); five grandchildren, Morgan Mason (Will), Megan Yoder (Jake), George Hunter IV, Evan Hunter, and Kayla Hunter. Marie was blessed to see three great-grandchildren born in the past few years: Ford Mason, Beck Mason, and Campbell Yoder.
A service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Swetman Cemetery in D’Iberville, MS. A lunch will be served at Bethel Lutheran at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Marie’s memory to Bethel Lutheran Church, 2521 Pass Road, Biloxi, MS.
