Marie Mitancia Nazaire was born on April 9, 1946, in Tabarre, Haiti. She came from a well-respected family known for its kindness and compassion toward others. She lived with her mother, Jeanne Anneau, her father, Souvinance Nazaire, her siblings, and two aunts, all of whom have since passed away. As the youngest of her parents' children, Marie Mitancia Nazaire was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Nonetheless, she remained close to extended relatives, such as cousins who lived nearby, though sadly, many of them have also passed on.
Marie Mitancia Nazaire was a married woman. Her husband, Yvre Roger Magny, preceded her in death. She was the devoted mother of nine children: her firstborn Enock Francis, followed by Clotilde Magny, Rubens Magny, Marie Christianne Magny, Nancy Magny, Osue Magny, lmmaculee Magny, one child who passed away in infancy, and her youngest, Marie Therese Magny.
She was blessed with 32 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, representing her family's third generation.
Professionally, Marie Mitancia Nazaire was a merchant, a cultivator of the land, and a market woman. She had a deep love for the soil and dedicated much of her life to agriculture. She was also known for preparing natural remedies in bottles to aid others in regaining their health. She provided massage therapy and healing support, often acting as a caregiver to those in need. She was a wise woman, ever present for her family, her friends, and anyone who required assistance. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she extended her love and kindness to all. She was truly a good and noble person.
Courageous and industrious, she worked tirelessly to provide for her family and ensure that her children received a proper education. She firmly believed in the transformative power of learning. For that reason, she made sure all of her children and godchildren attended school. Anyone who came to her seeking help with education, whether a friend, a neighbor, or even a stranger with limited means, found in her a willing supporter. She deeply valued knowledge and often recited what she had learned in school, particularly her favorite lesson: "French grammar is the set of rules for speaking and writing the language correctly."
She took joy in helping others with their homework and studies. Her home was often a place of refuge for strangers, as she could not bear to see anyone suffering or homeless. She had a special tradition of singing "Happy Birthday" to everyone on their special day, always seeking to bring happiness into the lives of others. Her sense of humor and joyful nature brought warmth to those around her. When her grandchildren would tease her, pretending she didn't know something, she would respond with good humor, saying: "Oh, how bold! Don't play with me like that. I went to school, you know!"
She would proudly speak of how she loved to dress well when going out, saying she was a beautiful woman, admired wherever she went. She would then share what she had learned at school, often striking a proud, graceful pose, as if in a parade or a fashion show, it was truly a lovely sight.
Marie Mitancia Nazaire had a deep appreciation for building beautiful homes. When members of her family considered selling their land, she always opposed it. Instead, she encouraged them to build homes to pass down through generations, preserving their legacy. She wanted her parents' names and memory to live on.
Later in life, Marie Mitancia suffered a stroke, followed by various age-related illnesses. Yet she faced these health challenges with great strength and dignity for many years, continuing medical treatment throughout. Sadly, she passed away on May 22, 2025, at the age of 79.
She led a truly remarkable life and leaves behind a lasting legacy. She touched countless lives through her generosity, compassion, and selfless acts.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Alma-Haylock, Anneau, Charles, Destine, Francis, Innocent, Jambom, Jean-Francois, Louis-Belnovin, Louis-Jacques, Magny, Merveilleux, Nazaire, Paul, Pierre, Semexant, Vendredi and Victorin families.
