Marie Alsup Cutshaw Phillips, age 80, of Waverly, TN passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. She was born on May 31, 1944, in Rockwood, TN to the late Lucy Ellen Baird Alsup and Benton Clyde Alsup. Her Purpose in life was to be a devout christian, devoted wife and mother.
She was true to her namesake,
Marie: meaning caring.
"You’re somebody special.
You truly do care.
You can be counted on,
For you're always there.
Warm and sincere,
You are never untrue;
Others can put their
Confidence in you.
You'll always be treasured
As a friend so rare
For the loving kindness
You continually share."
Marie also lived by her favorite bible passage, 1 Cor. 13.
Left to cherish her memory are her special grandchildren, Kayla Stevens (Chris) of McEwen, TN and Emily Field (Corey) of Waverly, TN; special great grandchildren, Landon Stevens, Olivia Bishop, Elleigh Stevens, Patrick Field and Ameila Field; stepchildren, Susan Glenn, Ward Phillips, Hugh Phillips and Sarah Durham; sisters, Nancy Bell Holder (Glenn) and Bertha C. Curtis (Joe). Marie is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Phillips; son, Lem Cutshaw, Jr.; daughter, Charline Bradley; father to her children, Lemuel Cutshaw; and stepson, Wesley Phillips.
A visitation for Marie will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, beginning at 12:00 P.M. until the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Jeremy McFarlin officiating. Interment to follow at Richlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers are John Curtis, Chris Curtis, John Evan Glenn, Andy Glenn, Charles Linam and Jeffrey Smith.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in a charity of your choice in honor of Mrs. Marie’s life.
