Chauvin Funeral Home & Crematory - HoumaWith heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her long, beautiful life, we announce the passing of our beloved mother/grandmother/aunt/sister, Marie "Mary" Thelma Prejeant, 91. She passed away on Friday November 28, 2025. Marie was a strong, resilient woman who loved to spend time with her family and always enjoyed visits from her great grandkids. She had a fire in her heart and gift for making those around her feel loved. She was the best cook any of us knew and the luckiest bingo player.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Prejeant, daughter Janet Prejeant Barker, and granddaughter Samantha Elizabeth Barker. Also preceding her death were her parents Clara Theriot Thibodeaux and Maurice Pierre Thibodeaux and siblings: Betty Allemand, Barbara Arceneaux, Clarabel Fernandez, Maxine Braud and Chris Thibodeaux.
She is survived by her daughter Ramona Braud, and husband Bert Braud, of Baton Rouge; daughter Robin Gafford, and husband Jack Gafford of Gonzales; and son-in-law Sammy Barker of Thibodaux. She is also survived by grandchildren: Jason Gafford (and wife Jessica) of Zachary, Katie Maxey (and husband Blair) of Slaughter, Jonathan Gafford (and wife Nikki) of Central, Chad Braud (and wife Lauren) of Baton Rouge, Kellie Wintz (and husband Will) of Baton Rouge, and Scott Barker of Texas. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren: Lilly Gafford, Fisher Gafford, Charlotte Gafford, Hannah Gafford, Abigail Gafford, John Michael Gafford, Andrew Gafford, Cody Gafford, Sawyer Maxey, Sayler Maxey, Parker Braud, Sarah Wintz, and Liam Wintz. Also surviving Marie are her siblings: sisters Mercedes Bergeron of Houma,
and Sandra Mizell (and husband Garlin) of Baton Rouge, and brother Maurice Thibodeaux (and wife Elaine) of Houma, as well as numerous extended family members.
The family would like to thank the staff at Old Jefferson Community Care Center for being her extended family these last 7 years, as well as the LSU ICU team and the nurses at Our Lady of the Lake ICU unit.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to St. Bridget Catholic Church on Friday, December 5, 2025, beginning at 9:00AM until the Mas of Christian Burial at 11AM. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
