Norris Esponge Obituary
Born on March 19, 1935 in Galliano, Louisiana and raised in Grand Isle, he was the son of Dorcelie and Henrietta Esponge, Sr. He attended Grand Isle High School. In 1962 Norris was drafted in the United States Army and stationed in Germany. He served with honor as Sp4 E-4 (P).
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church and member of The Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, reading his Bible, cutting the grass, being outdoors, and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Dunn Esponge; his children: Norris Joseph Esponge, Jr. (Denise), Elizabeth Esponge Anderton (Quinn), and Violet Esponge; grandchildren, Christopher Anderton (Heather), Tyler Anderton (Chris), Quinn Elizabeth Anderton (Erin), Norris J. Esponge III (Hailey), and Mason Self; and great-grandchildren, Jax Esponge, Adaline Esponge, and Willow Esponge. He was honorary grandfather to Madison Hartwell; Cody, Derek, Jared, and Harleigh Duplantis; Meilenn Weiss; Abby Pennison, and Lauren and Ronnie Self.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorcelie Esponge Sr. and Henrietta Galliano Esponge; and his brothers, Dorcelie "Cisco" Esponge Jr. and Noles Esponge.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shane Prejean and nurse Holly as CIS, Dr. Mark Walker and nurse Paige at Houma Family Practice, and Debbie, Crystal, and Alice with Hope Health Care for all their kindness, love, and professionalism as well as their dedication and excellent care.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A visitation will be held in his honor on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church, Grand Isle, Louisiana from 9:30 AM until the Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM.
