Judith R. Hughes

Judith Robichaux Hughes, a native and resident of Houma, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the age of 85.

Judy was a loving mother, cherished MawMaw, and faithful friend whose life was centered on family, togetherness, and love. She possessed a warm spirit and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures that brought people closer.

Judy loved traveling across the country with her husband, Leonard, and the family drag racing team (Candies & Hughes), where she was affectionately known and loved as the "team mom." Whether at the track or at home, she brought comfort, encouragement, and care to everyone around her. She was a member of the Cleopatra Mardi Gras crew for years and could often be found enjoying a good book, sewing, gardening or sitting down for a lively game of cards. Nothing, however, brought her greater joy than visiting with family and friends and sharing her gumbo at holiday events. Some of her most cherished moments were also spent relaxing at the family camp.

Judy took special pride in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports and other activities, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer them on and share in their excitement. Her unwavering support and proud smile were constant reminders of her deep love for her family.

She leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Leonard Hughes; her children, Cheri Hughes and Robert Hughes (Linda); her grandchildren, Laura Ellender (Jamie), Michael Navarre (Jennifer), Audrey Hughes (Nikita Mukhitov), Olivia Nyman (Chase), Robert Hughes, and Birkie Hughes; and her great-grandchildren, Aiden Navarre, Liza Ellender, Easton Navarre, and Gray Nyman. She is also survived by her sister, Brenda Robichaux Walker (Richard).

Judy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Chris Hughes; her parents, Ira and Yvonne Robichaux; her brother, Terry Robichaux; and her grandson, Jesse Hughes.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Samart Funeral Home (4511 West Park Ave., Gray) from 10:00 AM until service time. A religious service will begin at 12:00 noon.

Her love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family will continue to live on through the generations she cherished so deeply. She will be remembered always and missed beyond measure.
