LELAND – Marie Elizabeth Priest, 93, of Leland, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, at French Manor Terra of Traverse City.

Marie was born March 1, 1932, in Leland, the daughter of William D. Stander and Myrtle E. (Moore) Stander. On February 25, 1951, she married Emil Joseph Priest who preceded her in death on February 24, 2013.

At the time of her passing Marie was the oldest surviving native of Leland to actually be born there. Marie loved her church, the Leland Community United Methodist Church and was a life-long member and custodian. She tended to the cleanliness of the church until she was 86.

She had a vibrance for life and loved volleyball, playing it as a child and well into her 80's. Marie constantly rode her bike around Leland, also well into her 80's. She enjoyed reading, soap operas, crossword puzzles, TV game shows and had a crush on action star Chuck Norris and his character Walker Texas Ranger. Marie could talk with anyone and was a friend to all.

Marie is survived by her children, Alan (Mary) Priest, Daniel (Linda) Priest, Kathy (Tim) Eggert and Penny (Steve) Finch; her grandchildren, Cynthia (Dave) Williams, Jason (Tonya) Priest, Quentin (Melissa) Priest, Veronica (Mark) Dragavich, Elizabeth Priest, Nathan (Danielle) Priest, Danielle (Kenneth Gallo) Priest, Krystal (Scott) Abbott, Tracey (William Grant) Eggert, Hollie Starkey, Ben Starkey, Cody Priest, Justin Priest, Jenna Priest and Rachel Priest; her great grandchildren, Grace, Jack, Carmen, Addison, Samara, Joseph, Tyleen, Rachel, Blaise (Amy), Otto, Dylan, Lydia, Austin, William, Freya, Davina and two great great grandchildren, Jameson and Jordyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Todd Priest and two siblings, Eugene (Betty) Bauer and Charles Stander.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 29th at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Beechwood Cemetery.
