Marie Elaine South, age 71, of Terre Haute, IN passed away at 7:55 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Heartland Nursing and Rehab in Casey, IL where she was able to be visited by her immediate family. She was born May 8, 1953 in Shelburn, IN the daughter of Lloyd David South and Helen Jean (Bond) South.
Survivors include her sister, Polly Brink of Casey, IL; brothers, Tom South and Fred South, both of Shelburn, IN; nephews, Russell Brink (Connie), Lou Brink (Candy), Paul Markle (Jamie) and Teddy Markle; niece, Teresa Hensley; one great nephew, two great nieces and three great great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard South; sister, Ramona Markle (Paul) and brother in law, Morris Brink.
Elaine was a 1971 graduate of Lincoln High School, Vincennes, IN. She spent her adult years in Terre Haute, IN and worked as a certified nurse's aide in several local nursing homes. Elaine retired from Southwood Health Care Center in Terre Haute, IN. She had also previously worked at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. Elaine enjoyed her work and time with her family. She was a member of the Casey Westside Church of Christ.
Graveside inurnment will be conducted at 1 p.m. CST (2 p.m. EST) on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Bethesda Cemetery, Sugar Creek Township, Vigo County, IN with Andy Brenton officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Casey Township Library, 307 E. Main St., Casey, IL 62420.
