Marie Annette Spreen (Garman) passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by her loving children.
Born on August 20, 1948, in Barberton, Ohio, to Gilbert and Elizabeth Garman, Marie was raised in a German Catholic home alongside her younger sister, Dianne Woolbright. She went on to earn two bachelor’s degrees — in History and Sociology — a reflection of her deep love for learning and being an advocate for people.
Marie was once married and was a devoted mother to her two children, Edward Spreen and Heather Spreen, and to her son-in-law, Brad Aldridge. She was also a proud grandmother to her three cherished grandchildren: Paxton, Everest, and Thorin.
She was a fierce, loving, and selfless mother who worked tirelessly to create a better life for her children, always believing in their dreams and potential. In 1988, she found faith and a sense of belonging in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was deeply influenced by missionary Dave Hutto, whose message inspired her spiritual journey. Marie also devoted many years to the German choir in Portland, Oregon, where she nurtured her cultural roots and love for music. She especially loved playing the piano, often filling her home with beautiful melodies and sharing music with those around her.
Marie was truly one of a kind — wise, witty, and full of heart. Her laughter, guidance, and unwavering strength will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2025, at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery, 6500 S Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84084. The viewing begins at 10:00 am, with services to follow at 11:00 am.
As we celebrate Marie’s life, we kindly ask for support in helping us honor her with the farewell she deserves. Contributions toward funeral expenses — and to allow the family time to grieve — are deeply appreciated and can be made at my mom’s funeral and burial expenses.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
