Marie Thompson Obituary
Marie was born March 11, 1939 in New Jersey. She was the definition of a strong, independent woman, raising her family in Connecticut while also enjoying a successful career in investment banking. Marie and her late husband Ron Thompson moved from Darien, Connecticut to Venice, Florida in 1996. Marie was very involved in the Vence community, particularly her service and volunteer work at Epiphany Cathedral.
Marie loved cooking and travel, which brought her to countries around the world, with Italy being her clear favorite. Marie's greatest love, however, was her family. Her home was always the place to gather for great food, family and friendship.
Marie is survived by her children, daughter Kathleen in Texas, Joe (Marianne) Reilly of New York, Mary Ellen (Craig) Whitehead of Florida and Chris (Allison) Reilly of Connecticut, and well as her nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and her brother Charles H. "Sonny" Mielke of Vineland, NJ. She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Theresa Mielke and her beloved sisters Edith Capizola and Shirley Urie.
The family thanks the staff of Tidewell Care Center at Village on the Isle in Venice for the compassionate care provided to Marie. She will be laid to rest with her late husband Ron at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tidewell Foundation.

Marie and Ron were very faithful to Epiphany. She was a member of the Endowment Committee, helping to raise funds to secure the long-term future of the parish and school. She and Ron were featured in a video for this fund-raising effort. Glad she will be reunited with Ron; saddened we will no longer have her here. She is missed already.
