Marie Therese Wainwright, born on December 28, 1934, in Port Au Prince, Haiti, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, in
Greensboro, North Carolina, at the age of 90. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Marie embraced the role of educator with passion and commitment, dedicating many years as a high school math teacher. She inspired countless students with not only her knowledge but also her patience and encouragement. Her impact in the classroom was profound, shaping young minds and nurturing futures.
A gifted cook, Marie delighted in sharing the rich flavors of traditional Haitian cuisine, especially with her beloved family. Her kitchen was a place where love was expressed through the aromas and tastes of lovingly prepared meals. She found joy and companionship in cooking, knowing it brought people together.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a devoted Catholic, she was deeply involved in her church, drawing strength and comfort from her beliefs. Her faith guided her through life's challenges and joys, providing her with a sense of peace and purpose.
Marie was a voracious reader, finding solace and adventure within the pages of the Bible and romance novels. She also had a keen mind for puzzles, enjoying the quiet satisfaction of fitting pieces together to reveal a complete picture.
Music, particularly French songs, filled her heart with joy. It was through music that she celebrated life's moments, both big and small, finding beauty and inspiration in every note.
As a single mother, Marie's strength and sacrifice were unparalleled. She raised her daughters, Nathalie Guillaume and Marie Guillaume-Georges (Jean), with love and determination, teaching them the values of kindness and perseverance. She was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom, not only for her children but for all who knew her. She opened her heart and home to many, becoming an "adoptive Mom" to those in need of guidance and support.
Marie will be remembered for her strong sense of humor and sharp wit, her laughter echoing in the hearts of those who loved her. Her ability to see the lighter side of life and to offer sage advice made her a treasured friend to many.
Preceded in death by her parents, Camille Wainwright and Clotide Lamoureux; her brothers, Jean Claude Wainwright, Gary Wainwright, Milo Wainwright; and her sister, Marcelle Lamoureux, Marie leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. She is survived by her daughters, Nathalie Guillaume and Marie Guillaume-Georges (Jean); her cherished grandchildren, Mila Rose Georges, Makayla Georges, and Olivia Marie Sadler; her siblings Frantz "Kiki" Wainwright, Monique Degraff, and Marie Jose Dubuison; and numerous friends who became family.
Service will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on December 20th at noon.
Marie Therese Wainwright's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a beautiful testament to love, faith, and unwavering strength.
