Marietta M. Rosenow, age 97, of Litchfield, died on February 21, 2008 at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 1:00 PM  at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Paul Lindhorst officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery.

I was born in my parental home March 31, 1910 in the small village of Big Lake, Minnesota.  I was the third child born to Charles P. and Christine Hanson Umberhocker.  I had an older brother Reginald and sister Evelyn.  I also had an older half sister Leanora born to Charles P. and Katie Sausser Umberhocker on April 27, 1903.  October of 1914 the family of five moved from Big Lake, Minnesota to a homestead in Montana, about 17 miles northeast of Shelby, the Big Sky Country.  I was then 4 years old and my brother Reginald, my sister Evelyn and I had great fun here riding horseback.  We roamed over many miles of treeless prairie land, dodging cactus, snaring gophers and picking buttercups.  We ran through the coulies and over hills chasing rainbows to their end.  My sister Geneva was born here.  After 5 years of drought and complete crop failure in Montana, we moved back to Minnesota July 1919 to a farm 2 miles east of Litchfield.  We lived here just 2 years and sister Naomi was born here.  March 1921 we moved to the Barrett farm about 11 miles southeast of Litchfield.  It was here I spent my growing up years.  I was baptized and confirmed October 27, 1924 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Ellsworth Township by Reverend Martin Schuetze.  I graduated from Litchfield High School in 1929.  In 1930 I was married to Harry Rosenow by Reverend Erwin Marshall.  Four children were born to us here; LaVerne, Robert, Glenn and Ione.  After this farm was sold in the fall of 1937, we bought and moved March 8, 1938 to a farm in Harvey Township 2 miles South of Manannah.  Beatrice was born here in 1941.  The 22 years I lived here were my golden years as this is where my family grew up, schooled and married.  I really enjoyed all the young folks who frequented the home, visiting, laughing, talking, playing cards, games and dancing.  When Glenn married in 1960 we moved a smaller house to the farm where we lived for another 22 years.  In October of 1982 we moved to the town of Grove City.  This was a very big change for me as I had lived on a farm for 68 years.  Harry passed away October 1988 and is buried in Ripley Cemetery.  June 1, 1999 I moved to the Grove Square Apartment building in Grove City.  March 30, 2003 I moved to Lincoln Apartments in Litchfield.  I have enjoyed many hobbies during my lifetime.  I wove rugs for 25 years.  I have crocheted many afghans, doilies, hats, purses and many other things.  I love to play the organ and write stories of my family.  I wrote a book called 'AND THAT'S THE WAY IT WAS.'  I was a 4-H leader for five years.  I love to travel, play cards and do genealogy.  When I look at my large family, I thank God for the privilege of letting me share my life with them.  I have been truly blessed.  I have lived a long life and I wish this day to be a day of joy and celebration of my life.  I wish to thank each and everyone of you kind, caring people for coming today.  You have shown much love and respect for me and my family.  Goodbye - Take Care and God Bless.                            ~Marietta M. Rosenow~
