Marilyn Anita Barber, a resident of Wilmington, VT, passed away on April 20, 2022 in the Albany Medical Center. She was 86. The eldest daughter of the late Emil and Anita Behrmann, Marilyn was born on October 19, 1935 in Brooklyn.
Marilyn has four beloved daughters, eight grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren (with 3 more on the way) who meant the world to her. She shared a very special bond with all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and Friends were most important to her. She had so many friends who she loved and cherished.
Survivors include her daughters Lorraine and husband Peter Schaefers (New Jersey), Valerie Barber and partner David Amuktoolik (Alaska), Darlene and husband Mark Jackson (North Carolina), Christina and husband Scott Sheldon (Delaware). Grandchildren: Justin, Christian, Brittney, Tyler, Ryan, Hannah, Rebekah and Andrew. Brother: Richard Behrmann and partner Patty Thompson - and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Grundler.
Marilyn graduated from Richmond Hills (NYC) High School and lived in White Lake and Florida before moving with her family to West Dover, VT in 1967, where she lived until her death. She was the Innkeeper of the well-known lodge the "ALP-HOF" for a number of years. She served as an administrative associate at Green Mountain Power until her retirement.
Mom was very active during her life and was playing tennis until she turned 80. She loved driving and drove herself to Florida and back every year. She would stop at each of her daughters houses (in the lower 48) and spend a week or so with each on the way down and then on the way back again for a couple of days. She said that driving was the only time she was pain free. Mom was also quick witted and loved to laugh. She loved colorful clothes and shopping and always looked like a million bucks. She was beautiful inside and out.
The cremation/services were entrusted to Covey, Allen and Shea Funeral Home, Wilmington. The Interment Services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 12:30 pm at the Riverview Cemetery, 2 mile Stowe Hill Road, Wilmington. All are invited to attend. Please wear something colorful as this will be a celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deerfield Valley Rescue, c/o Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 215 Wilmington, VT 05363. To send the family personal condolences please visit www.sheafuneralhomes.com.
If Gardenias Grow in Heaven
If gardenias grow in Heaven Lord
Please pick a bunch for us.
Place them in my mother/Nana's arms
And tell her they are from us.
Tell her that we love and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek,
And hold her for awhile.
Remembering her is easy,
We do it every day.
But there's an ache within our hearts
That will never go away.
We love and miss you so very much.
