Marilyn Maxine Bitterle, aged 96, of Hartland, MI, passed away surrounded by love on
December 19, 2024. She was born on October 27, 1928, in Detroit, MI, to the late
Harley and Rose Snook. Marilyn's life was a tapestry of family, faith, love, and an
unwavering spirit of giving, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Marilyn grew up in the bustling streets of Detroit, where her parents, Harley and Rose
Snook, instilled in her a strong sense of resilience and a heart full of kindness. She was
the pillar among her siblings, sharing precious moments and everlasting memories with
her sisters, Donna (Bill) Reed and Joann Sadlier. The stories of her brothers, Bill and
Robert Snook, remain a treasure in her heart as she joins them in eternality.
On June 11, 1946, Marilyn married the love of her life, Jack, at Shrine of the Little
Flower in Royal Oak, MI. Their love blossomed into a beautiful family, comprising their
loving children: John (Linda) Bitterle, Thomas (Diane) Bitterle, Beth (Michael) McCarthy,
Laurie (Michael) Limbers, and James (Karen) Bitterle. Marilyn's joy was further
multiplied with the addition of 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and even a
great-great-grandchild, each adding a unique stitch to the fabric of her life.
Marilyn was a hearthstone of her community, known for her boundless energy and
vivacious social life. Neighbors often reminisced about the delightful gatherings at her
famous tiki bar and the warm camaraderie that seemed to follow her everywhere. Her
home was an open door to anyone in need, reverberating with the scent of her
cherished baked goods and the echo of hearty laughter over a competitive game of
"Rummikube."
Her passion for reading was only rivaled by her dedication to her myriad interests.
Marilyn was known for hosting splendid dinners, never missing a chance to serve a
home-cooked meal complete with dessert-a true testament to her conviction that a
little sweetness could brighten any day. Stained glass creations made alongside her
daughter Laurie added another layer to her artistic legacy.
Marilyn's deep faith was evident in her commitment to Our Lady of Sorrows and later St.
Mary Magdalen Church as both a Stephen Minister and a Eucharistic Minister. Through
these roles, she provided comfort and spiritual nourishment to those around her,
extending her maternal warmth to her wider community.
Despite her gentle demeanor, Marilyn was a force to be reckoned with. Her
stubbornness-a hallmark trait-ensured that she lived her life on her terms, gracing
others with her wisdom and the kind of love that only someone of her strength could
offer.
As we bid farewell to Marilyn, we celebrate the remarkable narrative she weaved
through her 96 years. Her legacy is a brightly lit path of kindness, care, and love-a
guide for generations to come. The echoes of her life's joyous melody will resonate in
the hearts of her family, through the gentle touch of a turned book page, the smooth
glass of a stained masterpiece, and the sweet aftertaste of desserts lovingly shared.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St.
Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, with a visitation one hour prior. 2201 S. Old U.S. 23
Hwy, Brighton, MI 48114.
