With great sadness, we announce the passing of Marilyn Joann Bonuchi. Joann passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on September 4, 2025. Joann was surrounded by her loved ones, including the love of her life for nearly 70 years,
Vic Bonuchi.
Joann, also known to many as Granny, spent her life helping others. Whether it was a student needing a letter jacket or football shoes, a stranger needing gas money or anyone that needed an ear to listen, Granny was always there for anyone needing a friend. She was also a huge support for her entire family! She was Vic's number one supporter during his many years of coaching. Granny was always her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's biggest fan. She attended every event she could, even if it was only possible through live streaming. Granny was a friend to all and cherished by everyone who knew her.
If you saw Joann out and about, you definitely would see Vic too. The two of them lived a real life love story. They were rarely apart and took amazing care of each other until the very end. Her love for God, for Vic and for the family they built together was the foundation for everything she did.
Joann lived her life by the motto, "glass half full", always seeing the positive in everything and everyone. Granny has had a positive impact on more lives than anyone could imagine. Joann's legacy will forever live on through all the lives she touched. Granny used to tell her family that everyone needs at least four hugs a day. I'm sure many in Excelsior were on the receiving end of her awesome hugs. If you happen to encounter any of her family, you will most certainly get a bighug. Granny's life was a blessing and her memory a treasure. She will forever be in our hearts!
Joann is survived by her beloved and devoted husband, Vic Bonuchi; her daughter, Viki (Ken) Personett; her son, Eddie Bonuchi; and was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Bonuchi. She will be cherished and remembered by all her grandchildren, Jennifer (Barry) Scoma, Mike (Lauren) Ruff, Lindsey (Jeremy) Personett, Kenny (Ashley) Personett, Amy (Beau) Brittain, Brandi (Trey) Corbett, Shane Bonuchi and Tori Bonuchi. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all her great-grand children, Hunter Scoma, Parker Scoma, Emma Ruff, Bella Brittain, Finn Ruff, Grayson Bonuchi, Monroe Corbett, Ruby Corbett, Oliver Personett and Lincoln Personett.
Please join us in our celebration of her life Thursday, September 18, 2025 at St. Ann's Catholic church located in Excelsior Springs. The service will begin at 10 a.m. with a limited visitation following immediately after that because we are concerned with Vic's health. It is possible he won't be able to stay at the visitation for as long as he'd like. If you are unable to visit with him that day, please feel free to send a card to 15495 Highway Y, Excelsior Springs, MO, 64024. Or, if you'd like to come visit him, please contact a member of the family. He would truly enjoy visiting with each and every one of you.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Joann's name to the Excelsior football, wrestling or baseball program. Or, donate in her name to the Alzheimer's Association or similar charity.
