Marilyn Preston McAllister Brann, age 87 of Coles Point, Virginia suddenly left this earth on July 17, 2025 with family at bedside.
Marilyn was born on March 19, 1938 in Kilmarnock, Virginia to the loving parents of Captain Charles Preston McAllister and Pauline Thomas McAllister. Marilyn was the youngest of the McAllister girls, she was raised in Sampsons Wharf and later Wicomico Church, Virginia. She attended Wicomico Elementary School and graduated in 1956 from Heathsville High School, Heathsville, Virginia, later to be named Northumberland High.
Marilyn had a deep-rooted Christian faith as she was taught early in life by her parents. She was a life long member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and she attended Melrose Methodist as often as she could. Later in life she faithfully listened to audio church services every Thursday Night and on Sundays, you could find her watching her favorite Televangelist Dr. Joel Osteen.
During Marilyn's work career, she was employed by Tidewater Telephone Company in Kilmarnock, she was co-proprietor of Ridge Homes in Callao, owned & operated The Driftwood II Restaurant in Coles Point and she was employed seven years by Northern Neck Oil until their merger. Marilyn had an impressive work ethic, she retired in 2021 from Peoples Community Bank which at the time was merging with C&F Bank. During the COVID epidemic and after 33 years of dedicated banking service, Marilyn at the young age of 83 left the workforce. After her retirement, she missed and always spoke fondly of her work family at the bank.
Marilyn was a kindred spirit who never met a stranger, she enjoyed all that life had to offer, she always had a smile and a precious little giggle. She was truly the daughter of a Waterman as she loved to go crabbing, fishing, oystering and attending to her soft crab floats. She could pick a pound of crabmeat in record time, without a single shell. At family gatherings and crab feasts she taught the younger children how to pick out crabs, with pride she always ended up picking a bowl of crab meat for each of them. She made the best crab salad and sweet potato pies you ever ate.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert "Bob" McKenney and her husband Lester "Larry" Brann; her stepson Michael L. Brann; three infant brothers; and three sisters: Dorothy Dawson of White Hall, Maryland, Redia Kutzo of Orlando, Florida and Pauline Elizabeth Jones of Farnham, Virginia.
She is survived by her son, Robert "Bobby" McKenney, a stepdaughter Amy Brann, a step-grandson Michael "Mikey" Brann, and a multitude of nieces and nephews as well as many other cousins and friends.
A funeral service for Marilyn will be held at Welch Funeral Home,
